چکیده
A copper-catalyzed addition of arylboronates to isatins has been developed to give 3-aryl-3-hydroxy-2-oxindoles under mild conditions. The catalytic cycle of this process has been examined through a series of stoichiometric reactions and an effective asymmetric variant has also been described by the use of a chiral N-heterocyclic carbene ligand.

A copper-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of epoxides with arylboronates is described. This reaction is not limited to aromatic epoxides, because aliphatic epoxides are also suitable substrates. A copper-catalyzed asymmetric α-hydrophosphonylation of isatins with a novel fluorous bis(oxazoline) as a ligand is presented. The corresponding chiral α(1)-oxindole-α-hydroxyphosphonates were obtained in 30-91% yield with enantioselectivities up to 92%. The fluorous ligand can be easily recovered and reused at least 3 times without a significant loss in its activity.

A novel palladium-catalyzed C-H double carbonylation introduces two adjacent carbonyl groups for the synthesis of isatins from readily available anilines. The reaction proceeds under atmospheric pressure of CO with high regioselectivity and without any additives. Density functional theory investigations indicate that the palladium-catalyzed double carbonylation catalytic cycle is plausible.
